This hour-long video discusses how we, the Bleikers, define "a Forum." This is one of the most powerful tools in your toolbox of techniques.

By periodically viewing this video, and using the technique you will:

  • Learn how to use a Forum in the place of other techniques that you may be required to use under local, state, or federal by-laws . . . while meeting those guidelines,

  • Know when confronting a major decision, how to effectively use the Forum to get your PAIs (Potentially Affected Interests -- publics) to understand the various issues surrounding that decision,

  • Also learn how to reap the benefits of using the Forum for documentation of the background that contributed to the decision.

This Technique's Drawbacks / Considerations:

  • When used as suggested, there are hardly any drawbacks . .

When you purchase the tape on Public Hearings, we include with it the lecture on Conducting a Forum automatically. Likewise, if you purchase the tape on Forums, we will include the lecture on Public Hearings because of how we recommend intertwining the two techniques. (If you have already purchased either of these tapes and did not receive the other, you can purchase that tape separately: Public Hearing along: $85, Conducting a Forum $135.)

IPMP's Disclaimer

We, Hans & Annemarie Bleiker, offer an Objectives-Driven Approach to public participation. Our SDIC (Systematic Development of Informed Consent) course covers this objectives-driven approach.

We strongly encourage you to first determine "what is wrong" with your relationship between you and your PAIs (Potentially Affected Interests) -- your publics -- before you determine how to fix it!

At this point, we assume that you have identified this technique to be a tool that will help you achieve a specific objective; and are not making the fundamental mistake of choosing a tool (a technique) prior to determining what needs fixing.
